Trek Itinerary
Day 1
After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your accommodation at 9:00 AM to begin the one-day trek. It will start with a short introduction and safety briefing. You'll follow the river, walk gently uphill, and pass through small rubber plantations on the way to the entrance of Gunung Leuser National Park. Inside the park, your guide will help you look for the famous Sumatran orangutans in their natural habitat. It is highly likely you will spot a semi wild orangutan here, as they are quite familiar with humans and often come down from the trees. You will then continue to search for other wildlife such as Thomas leaf monkeys, macaques, and even gibbons. Enjoy a delicious lunch and then continue walking through the forest to spot even more flora and fauna whilst your guide explains how different trees and plants are used by animals and local people for food and medicine. You will arrive at jungle camp at approximately 4pm, just in time for a well-deserved cup of tea/coffee and a dip in the river whilst our team prepare a jungle feast for you to enjoy for dinner. As night falls enjoy star gazing, chatting with your guides and playing some fun jungle games.
Day 2
After breakfast by the river, the trek continues deeper into the jungle. The route passes through thicker forest and more remote terrain, with chances to see different wildlife and learn about the plants and trees that make up this unique ecosystem. Lunch will be served along the way, followed by an afternoon walk to the second campsite, set beside the river, stream or waterfall. You can cool off with a swim, enjoy dinner cooked by your guides, and spend another night under the stars surrounded by jungle sounds.
Day 3
Venture further into untouched terrain, spotting hornbills soaring overhead and perhaps evidence of Sumatran elephants — broken branches, dung, or footprints near water sources. After a full day of trekking, head to jungle camp for your final night. Relax, swim, and listen to stories from your jungle guides.
Day 4
Wake up to the morning calls of birds and gibbons. After breakfast, you'll begin the return journey, following a new trail back toward Bukit Lawang. The final part of the trek ends with a tubing ride down the Bohorok River, floating through the rainforest back to the village. You'll return to your guesthouse around 3:00 PM, ready to relax after three unforgettable days in the Sumatran jungle.
